The Process

1. Fill out a commission form below.

2. Schedule a call with me for a quick brainstorming session. You can send an email to artist@jamesmiille.com for help with scheduling.

3. After our call, I will send you a sketch of your piece and a proposal about how we'll make it happen. I'll lay out a timeline for the delivery, and we'll coordinate any elements of the process that need scheduling (booking photo shoots etc.).

4. After taking a look at the proposal and sketch, you'll sign our commission agreement and send over the deposit for your piece. The deposit will be 50% of the total cost of your commission, the other half of the payment will be due upon the piece's completion. More information about pricing can be found below.

5. We'll keep in close touch as your piece is created. I'll send additional sketches and drafts as the image comes along, and you'll have several opportunities to provide feedback along the way so that we can make your dreams a reality!

6. Once the piece is completed and we've collaborated to create the finished product, the remainder of your payment will be due before the image is sent to be printed and framed.

7. Your piece will be sent to you with a certificate of authenticity. Printing will be done on Hahnemühle Fine Art Pearl archival paper so that it can be enjoyed and admired for many years to come!

Pricing Breakdown

The price of your commission will be the cost of your print plus $750. There are 3 sizes of prints available:

  • Standard Size | ~16x20" → $366 (+ $750)

  • Statement Size | ~24x36" → $1,222 (+ $750)

  • Collector Size | ~36x48" → $2,444 (+ $750)

There are a couple other potential costs to keep in mind, namely:

  • Photo studio → typically $150 (we can also plan the shoot outdoors if it makes sense for the photo concept to avoid this cost)

  • Travel & lodging → costs vary (we can avoid this cost if we plan the shoot around an upcoming trip of mine, or if the commission takes place where I live. I’m currently based in Mexico City, and I travel frequently to most major US cities for work)

  • Rush fee → $250 (commissions typically require a 1-3 month lead time depending on the complexity of the piece. Commissions needed within less than a month may require this rush fee depending on time of year)

  • Exclusivity fee → $250 (each commissioned piece will be made available for purchase by others as a limited edition, or you can make it yours exclusively for this fee)

The pricing above includes a professionally crafted frame in James’ tried and true framing specs, and framing is available in black, white or maple.
